Streaming Radio Station for Michigan’s Thumb

Just wanted to give you a quick update. Do you remember Sand Point Radio? It was the first real streaming radio station in Thumbs, featuring awesome alternative music that you couldn’t get on your regular FM stations. Well, unfortunately, the station had to shut down because of rising fees and increased royalty demands from ASCAP. It’s a disappointment, for sure.

Now, onto the happier stuff. The Upper Thumb area is a hotbed of creativity, attracting folks from all walks of life. You’ve got retirees enjoying their golden years on the beach, entrepreneurs setting up T-shirt shops, art galleries, and even radio stations. Back in 2016, a guy called Paul Triplett started Sand Point Radio, the first-ever Internet Radio station in the area. It exclusively streamed online, offering a much-needed alternative to AM/FM radio.

Paul decided to start the station to share his love for alternative music – the kind that he discovered when MTV first hit the airwaves in the 1980s. His station’s format was a spin-off from the album-oriented rock format, a style that traces its roots back to the freeform and progressive formats of the 60s and 70s. In the future, Paul hopes to add more local content to the station, like weather updates, local happenings, and short local ads. He wants to keep these segments short, though, to maintain the flow of music.

Listening to Sand Point Radio is easy – you can access it anywhere you have an Internet connection, so be sure to check it out.
