Stellantis Expands Home Repair Grants with $3.3 Million for Detroit Neighbors

Stellantis allocates $3.3 million to Detroit homeowners near its Mack plant, bringing total home repair funding to over $5 million since 2019.

Detroit Residents Near Stellantis Plant to Benefit from Additional Home Repair Grants

Stellantis, in collaboration with the City of Detroit, announced an additional $3.3 million in funding for home repair grants for residents living near its Detroit Assembly Complex – Mack (DAC-M) plant. This funding builds on the company’s ongoing commitment to community support since it established the Mack plant in 2019.

The newly allocated funds are sourced from unspent development project resources, including $2.7 million reallocated through the Michigan Strategic Fund, Detroit Brownfield Redevelopment Authority, and Detroit City Council. An additional $600,000 will come from the Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) Neighborhood Impact Fund. Detroit’s Housing & Revitalization Department will administer the program, with applications set to open in January 2025.

Christine Estereicher, Stellantis North America’s Vice President of Public Affairs, emphasized the company’s dedication to the community, stating, “Redirecting these funds where they could do the most good was an easy decision. One of Stellantis’ values is to care for the future, and we hope these additional funds will help our neighbors make necessary updates to their homes.”

Stellantis’ Investments Address Local Needs

The $3.3 million expansion brings the total home repair funding to over $5 million, including $1.8 million previously allocated through the CBA. The initial funds, disbursed in 2020 and 2021, aided 120 homeowners with essential repairs.

The Home Repair Program is part of Stellantis’ broader investment strategy for Detroit’s east side, which has included:

  • Green Infrastructure Initiatives: A $1.4 million investment mitigated construction impacts through projects such as a stormwater park, vegetative buffers, and planting 1,100 trees to improve air quality and water management.
  • Educational Partnerships: $4 million funded the Advanced Manufacturing Academy at Southeastern High School, and the Automotive Manufacturing Program in Mechatronics was launched at Wayne County Community College’s Eastern Campus.
  • Neighborhood Beautification: Efforts include transforming vacant lots into green spaces, planting gardens, and a 1,500-foot mural by Detroit artist Dr. Hubert Massey.
  • Community Support: An additional $200,000 funded projects in Chandler Park, West End, and Riverbend neighborhoods.

How the Funds Impact Homeowners and the Community

Eligible residents in the neighborhoods surrounding DAC-M will receive grants for essential repairs, addressing longstanding needs brought forward during community feedback sessions. The Housing & Revitalization Department has set up a hotline at (313) 628-2231 for inquiries.

This funding initiative follows Stellantis’ significant investment in the DAC-M plant, a $1.6 billion project launched in 2019 to produce next-generation Jeep® vehicles. The facility is Michigan’s first to manufacture plug-in hybrid SUVs like the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe.

Transforming the Future of Detroit’s East Side

The expanded home repair grants are one part of Stellantis’ strategy to foster long-term revitalization in Detroit. Beyond direct financial contributions, the company’s efforts to improve infrastructure, education, and community spaces aim to create lasting benefits for the area.

Stellantis continues to fulfill its corporate commitment to sustainability, innovation, and community engagement. Its Dare Forward 2030 initiative outlines ambitious plans for achieving carbon net-zero status by 2038, ensuring a balanced approach to economic, environmental, and social value.
