Macomb County Dispatcher Guides Emergency Baby Delivery Over Phone

Dispatcher’s quick thinking and training help safely deliver baby before paramedics arrive.

Heroic Dispatcher Aids in Early Morning Birth

In a remarkable display of composure and professionalism, Macomb County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Dispatcher Cidnee Schramm helped guide the emergency delivery of a baby over the phone on December 29, 2024. The call came into the MCSO Dispatch Center at approximately 5:42 a.m. from a Clinton Township resident whose wife was in active labor.

The caller reported that his wife’s water had broken, and contractions were just one minute apart. Dispatcher Schramm, drawing on her training, calmly instructed the father-to-be on how to assist with the delivery and stimulate the baby’s breathing after birth. She remained on the line until the Clinton Township Fire Department arrived to take over care.

Dispatcher’s Composure Praised by Sheriff

“We are incredibly proud of the composed and professional manner in which Dispatcher Schramm handled this call,” said Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham. “Dispatchers like Cidnee prepare diligently for instances like this, and we are thankful for this positive outcome.”

The Sheriff’s Office confirmed that both the mother and the baby are healthy and doing well.
