Lotto 47 Jackpot: Macomb County Club Wins $1.1 Million Windfall

Macomb County lottery players strike it big, winning a $1.1 million Lotto 47 jackpot with a nostalgic ticket purchase at Liquor Land in Eastpointe.

Lottery Club’s Nostalgic Purchase Pays Off with $1.1M Win

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A Macomb County lottery club turned a sentimental birthday gift into a life-changing windfall after winning a $1.1 million Lotto 47 jackpot from the Michigan Lottery. The winning ticket, purchased at Liquor Land on East 9 Mile Road in Eastpointe, matched all six numbers in the December 14, 2024, drawing.

Sentimental Tradition Turns Into Fortune

The club’s representative, who purchased the ticket as a birthday gift for his father, said he rarely buys lottery tickets but always chooses Liquor Land for its nostalgic connection.

“I don’t buy tickets often, but when I do, I always buy them at Liquor Land because my father used to buy his tickets there when I was a kid,” he said. “When my dad checked the ticket after the drawing, he had to look at it more than a few times to believe what he was seeing.”

Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli congratulated the winners, calling the prize a “memorable birthday gift” that would be “nearly impossible” to top.

Winners Opt for Lump Sum Payout

After verifying the winning ticket, the club members visited Michigan Lottery headquarters to claim their prize. Rather than taking the full $1.1 million in annuity payments, they chose a one-time lump sum of approximately $763,000.

The winners plan to pay off bills and invest in a business with their newfound wealth.

Lotto 47 Offers Big Prizes for Just $1

Lotto 47 players select six numbers from 1 to 47 for a chance to win a jackpot that starts at $1 million and continues to grow until a winner emerges.

For an additional $1 per play, participants can opt for Double Play, which gives them a second chance to win up to $1.5 million in a nightly drawing. The EZMatch feature, available for an extra $1 per game, provides a chance to win up to $500 instantly. Drawings take place Wednesdays and Saturdays at 7:29 p.m., and tickets can be purchased at retail locations or online until 7:08 p.m. on drawing days.

Liquor Land Gains Notoriety as Lucky Retailer

The Eastpointe liquor store where the winning ticket was purchased has now gained a reputation as a lucky lottery retailer. Store owner Mike Patel says this win has sparked an increase in Lotto 47 ticket sales.

“People are coming in asking for ‘the lucky tickets,’” Patel said. “It’s exciting for our business, and we hope to see more winners walk through our doors.”

Michigan Lottery Continues to Fuel Education

In addition to life-changing wins, proceeds from the Michigan Lottery support public education in the state. In 2023 alone, the Lottery contributed more than $1.3 billion to Michigan’s School Aid Fund.
