Fatal Crash in Lake Township Leaves One Dead

Mary K. Ban, 43, of Caseville, was killed in a single-vehicle accident on M-25 in Lake Township. The crash occurred early this morning.

Tragic Early Morning Accident on M-25

A fatal car accident occurred early Wednesday morning on M-25 in Lake Township, Huron County, claiming the life of Mary K. Ban, a 43-year-old resident of Caseville. According to Huron Central Dispatch, a damaged vehicle was reported at 9:33 a.m. near Quarry Road. The caller noted the absence of anyone around the wreck.

Upon arrival, Huron County deputies discovered a severely damaged Jeep Cherokee with Ban as the sole occupant. She was deceased when responders arrived at the scene.

Details of the Accident Investigation

Preliminary findings indicate the crash happened several hours before the report. Witnesses near the scene reported hearing a loud noise at approximately 2:30 a.m., which authorities believe was the time of the incident. Investigators suggest Ban’s vehicle left the roadway while traveling eastbound, struck a fence, became airborne, and collided with two trees.

The Caseville Fire Department extricated Ban from the wreckage. She was turned over to a medical examiner investigator as part of the ongoing investigation. Accident reconstruction specialists from the Huron County Sheriff’s Office processed the scene to gather further evidence.

Community Reaction and Safety Concerns

This incident highlights safety concerns on rural highways like M-25, which can pose risks due to high speeds, limited lighting, and narrow shoulders. Sheriff Kelly Hanson reminded residents to remain vigilant while driving, particularly during nighttime and early morning hours. “Road safety is everyone’s responsibility,” Hanson said in a statement.

The Sheriff’s Department urges anyone with additional information about the incident to contact their office. The investigation remains active, with authorities working to determine the exact cause of the crash.
