East Tawas Redevelopment Ready Communities Certification Signals Big Opportunities for Investors

Designation positions East Tawas to attract private investment and improve local economic development by removing traditional barriers and streamlining zoning processes.

LANSING, Mich. — The City of East Tawas has officially been awarded the Redevelopment Ready Communities (RRC) certification, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) announced Tuesday. This designation marks East Tawas as a municipality thoroughly prepared to attract private investment and pursue economic growth. The city now joins 74 other Michigan communities that have met stringent planning and zoning standards designed to promote investor confidence.

Redevelopment Ready Communities Program Boosts Economic Potential

The RRC certification, awarded by MEDC, is part of a state initiative to support communities that are committed to removing obstacles to development. Michele Wildman, MEDC Chief Place Officer, praised East Tawas’ achievement, stating, “The City of East Tawas is well-positioned to implement its vision for the future and improve the quality of life for its residents. We look forward to continuing our partnership with the city.”

As part of the RRC program, East Tawas underwent a rigorous assessment of its community and economic development practices. The certification demonstrates that the city has adopted best practices for transparency, predictability, and efficiency in its zoning and planning processes, making it more attractive to developers and investors.

East Tawas Eyes Future Growth and Development

Stephanie Loew, Zoning Administrator for East Tawas, expressed the city’s gratitude for the partnership with MEDC, noting that the certification process was beneficial not just for city officials but for the entire community. “It has helped us develop the necessary documents and tools to better serve our residents and stakeholders,” Loew said, highlighting the potential for new developments and business expansions.

With the certification, East Tawas will have access to enhanced tools and support to help it reach its community development goals. The RRC team will provide ongoing technical assistance, ensuring that the city remains on track with best practices. The certification remains active for five years, after which the city will undergo a review for renewal.
