A trooper’s quick response prevents a collision after a car strikes a deer and crosses the centerline in Tuscola County.

Caro Trooper Dodges Oncoming Car After Deer Collision

CARO, MI – A routine patrol turned into a near-miss for a Michigan State Police (MSP) trooper from the Caro Post last night when a car struck a deer and veered into oncoming traffic on M-46 near Plain Road.

The incident occurred as an 18-year-old driver from Marlette was heading westbound on M-46 in a 2015 Dodge Charger. The car collided with a deer, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle crossed the centerline and entered the path of the eastbound trooper.

Quick Thinking Prevents Tragedy

Thanks to safe driving and reduced speed, the MSP trooper managed to avoid a collision. The Charger ultimately left the roadway and ended up in a ditch.

The driver and his two passengers emerged uninjured. Despite the severity of the situation, no injuries were reported.

A Reminder About Road Safety

This incident underscores the importance of driving at safe speeds, especially during deer season when wildlife is more active near roads. MSP reminds drivers to remain vigilant and prepared for unexpected hazards, such as animals or oncoming vehicles.
