Suspect Michael Brooks faces multiple felony charges after a high-speed chase in Warren led to a crash, injuring an officer and endangering his 12-year-old daughter.
High-Speed Chase in Warren Ends in Felony Charges
WARREN, Mich. — A police pursuit in Warren on Wednesday resulted in multiple felony charges against 33-year-old Michael Brooks of Eastpointe. The incident, which took place on February 13, ended in a violent crash at 8 Mile and Mound Road, leaving an officer hospitalized and raising serious concerns about public safety.
The Pursuit and Crash
At approximately 11:52 a.m., a Warren patrol officer attempted to stop a silver Cadillac sedan near I-696 and Dequindre due to an invalid license plate violation. Instead of complying, Brooks fled southbound on Mound Road, initiating a high-speed pursuit.
Shockingly, Brooks’ 12-year-old daughter was in the vehicle at the time, a fact unknown to officers during the chase. As he approached the intersection of 8 Mile and Mound, Brooks ignored a red light and crashed into two other vehicles. Meanwhile, the pursuing officer was involved in a separate crash on Mound Road, north of 8 Mile. The officer remains hospitalized in stable condition after surgery, with expectations of a full recovery.
Felony Charges Against Brooks
Following an investigation by Warren police, the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office authorized multiple felony charges against Brooks, including:
- Fleeing & Eluding (Second Degree) – 10-year felony
- Third-Degree Child Abuse – 2-year felony
- Driving with a Suspended License Causing Serious Injury – 5-year felony
- License Plate Forgery – 1-year felony
Brooks was arraigned in 37th District Court before Visiting Judge Metry, where he entered a not guilty plea. His bond was set at $100,000 cash/surety with a GPS tether requirement if posted. His next court appearance is scheduled for February 25, 2025.
A History of Reckless Behavior
Investigators revealed Brooks’ extensive criminal record, highlighting repeated offenses including:
- Felony possession of synthetic narcotics
- Multiple counts of fleeing & eluding (Third and Fourth Degree)
- Weapons possession
- Possession of methamphetamine or ecstasy
- Multiple driving suspensions and prior convictions
Authorities also notified Child Protective Services (CPS) regarding Brooks’ actions, given the unprecedented nature of a fleeing suspect endangering their own child.
