Driver hospitalized after attempting to avoid deer on rural road; alcohol and speed ruled out.
Early Morning Rollover Sends Driver to Hospital
FLYNN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 52-year-old Cheboygan man was transported to Marlette Regional Hospital early Wednesday morning, following a single-vehicle rollover near the intersection of Shepherd Road and Harrington Road.
The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Department responded to the 911 call at approximately 2:00 a.m. on October 23, 2024, along with Marlette EMS and the Brown City Fire Department. According to deputies, the crash involved a 2015 Audi A4 that had veered off the road after the driver attempted to avoid a deer that appeared suddenly in the roadway.
Vehicle Airborne After Crashing into Field Drive
The investigation revealed that the northbound vehicle entered the west ditch on Shepherd Road, continuing north before hitting a field drive at high speed. The impact launched the car airborne, causing it to roll over twice before landing upright on its wheels.
The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was treated on scene by Marlette EMS and later transported to Marlette Regional Hospital for additional care. His injuries were not described as life-threatening.
Alcohol and Speed Ruled Out
Authorities confirmed that alcohol and speed were not factors in the crash, and the driver was reported to have been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.
