8 Stunning Reasons Michigan’s Thumb is the Ultimate Destination – Yes, Even at 8 O’Clock!

Kicking off an early weekend, I found myself heading up the Thumb of Michigan. After dropping my better half off for a flight out of DTW, I was chasing the setting sun. I was on the lookout for a unique spectacle that only graces us during early Summer nights.

Driving just a bit north of the quaint village of Pinnebog, also known as the universe’s center from the third stool left in Heck’s Bar, I was searching for a tiny two-track to signal my arrival.

Off the main road, I stumbled upon a sight that’s both common and extraordinary – a large barn built by farmers of yesteryears. Despite the harsh winter known for its winds and horizontal snow, the Secret Sky Barn Project stood tall.

The sun found its way through the narrow slot of the barn, illuminating the shadowy green grass. The evening breeze brought with it the fresh scent of Lake Huron, along with the strong smell of recently spread fertilizer.

I found myself close to the shore, in our little haven, ready to explore new stories before the high summer light fades away.
