7 Unbeatable Reasons Why Caseville Harbor Dominates Michigan Falls

Fall in Michigan seems to fly by. Sometimes, you’ll still see boats in the water come November. It can feel a bit lonely being one of the last ones to leave your slip in Caseville harbor during the fall, but the harbor is a fantastic place to stop and visit, especially if you’re taking a fall color tour along M-25.

Caseville Harbor in the fall is quite a sight. Last year, we were one of the last ones to get our sailboat out of the water, just as ice began to form. This year, due to a tight schedule, we decided to do it at the end of September. It was tough, symbolizing the end of our time on Saginaw Bay and the realization that summer was truly over.

I remember the last weekend in September 2014 at Caseville Harbor. Fall in Michigan is such an under-appreciated time of year. Everyone’s back at school or work, and it feels like a new beginning. These photos are from five years ago, showing the old fish house from the early 1900s that used to sit on the canal. It’s since been torn down.

When Labor Day passes, people’s mindsets change. Yet, the days are usually warm well into mid-October, with the low sun casting long shadows even at midday. Everyone looks for the current fall colors in Michigan, but the best color in Michigan’s Thumb typically starts in mid-October.

The Bay Port Fish Company usually gets their trap nets ready for one last run of whitefish. The whitefish come back close to shore, and we see net buoys just a few hundred yards from the beach.

The sailors at the Huron County Yacht Club are just days away from taking out their boats. It’s a group effort with everyone participating in stepping the masts and swinging the sailboats to their cradles for the winter.

In summary, Michigan’s fall season may be short, but it’s filled with beautiful colors, warm days, and memorable moments. Whether you’re one of the last ones to leave your boat slip in Caseville Harbor or you’re part of the group effort at the Huron County Yacht Club, there’s something special about this time of year. So, next time you’re driving on a fall color tour along M-25, don’t forget to stop and visit Caseville Harbor – you won’t regret it.
