5 Unmatched Michigan State Park Lodges: Experience the Ultimate Camping Luxury!

Hey there, this is Casey Warner from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Remember when camping at a state park only meant pitching a tent or parking an RV? Well, those days are gone! As travelers’ tastes have evolved, so have the lodging options at Michigan State Parks.

We’ve noticed the rise of Airbnb and glamping, and we’re keeping up with the times. We now offer a variety of unique accommodations, from tiny houses to safari tents and even geodesic domes. Our goal is to provide a comfortable and unique experience for every kind of traveler, whether you’re looking for luxury or a minimalist camping experience.

One of the exciting new additions to our parks is the tiny house at Waterloo Recreation Area. This tiny abode offers a full-size bed, a single trundle bed, and a loft bed, along with modern amenities like air conditioning, a mini fridge, and a microwave. We’ve found that it’s a great way for people to try out camping without making a huge investment in gear.

We’re also partnering with private companies to offer glamping experiences. Thanks to Tentrr, you can now camp in style in a safari tent at Highland Recreation Area or Sleeper State Park. These tents come with a comfortable bed, Adirondack chairs, a fire pit with a grill, and a picnic table with storage.

For those who prefer a more unique experience, we’ve introduced geodesic domes at Port Crescent. These environmentally friendly domes offer a comfortable setting with spruce paneling, skylights, and windows looking out to Lake Huron.

We’re also revamping our existing cabins to make them more appealing to modern travelers. With the help of a professional designer, we’re overhauling the interior, exterior, and surroundings of our cabins to create a more modern and appealing experience.

For the minimalist campers out there, we now offer hammock-only sites at Port Crescent State Park. Each site includes posts and hooks for hammocks, a picnic table, an electrical power pedestal, and a fire ring. You can even rent a hammock at the park!

We’re not just about providing a place to sleep. We want to offer meaningful experiences for our visitors. Whether it’s night sky viewing lodges for our dark sky parks, native gardening ideas for our cabins and bunkhouses, or increasing awareness of local plant and animal species, we’re always looking for ways to enhance your stay.

In the coming months and years, you can expect to see even more unique and interesting lodging options at our state parks. No tent or RV required!
