Hey there, folks! The Porcupine Press is once again hosting its annual Porcupine Bash at Port Austin’s American Legion Hall on August 24th. We’re celebrating over a decade of collecting gifts for our Michigan veterans in V.A. Hospitals and V.A. care homes.
Here’s what you need to know about the Porcupine Bash’s schedule of events. We kick things off at 10:30 am at the Port Austin American Legion Post #449 with registration for the All Vehicle Ride with A.B.A.T.E Region 7. Don’t forget to bring your veterans gifts or supplies to drop off at the Legion Hall. Feel free to have a bit of fun and wrap your gift before you drop it off. We’ll even treat you to a donut and coffee!
At 11:30 am, we’ll head over to the Veterans Memorial Park for a ceremony, then it’s off to Pinnebog for lunch at Heck’s Bar, the center of the known universe.
Later, at 6:00 pm, we’re back at the American Legion for a home-cooked Polish dinner and music. The meal includes smoked fish from Bayport Fish Co, cheese from Wilson’s Cheese, Pinconning, pierogis from Grandma’s Pierogis of Petoskey, homemade Polish sausage from Caseville Family Market, stuffed cabbage rolls by Chef Dennis D. Sturtz Sr. of You Can Cuisine, pies made by Walt’s Meat Market, and fresh fruit from Brian’s Fruit and Meat Market West Branch. It’s $10 for adults and $5 for kids under 10. Autumn Gold will kick off the music at 7 pm, and we’ll have raffle and 50/50 drawings all night long.
We’re also collecting specific items for our Michigan veterans. These include universal TV remotes, neck pillows, rechargeable AA and AAA batteries, writing materials, postage stamps, new clothing (sizes L, XL, and 2XL), comfort items like shaving cream, denture cleaner, and soft bristle toothbrushes, and entertainment items like crossword puzzle books, word find books, reading material, and audio books.
