Let’s dive in with a look at this Michigan-born author, Jeffrey Eugenides. Born in Detroit in 1960 to a Greek immigrant father and an Irish-American mother, Jeffrey’s mixed heritage has played a significant role in his writing. After attending University Liggett School in Grosse Pointe, he headed off to Brown University and later Stanford for graduate work. He’s penned plenty of short stories and essays, but it’s his three novels that have really made waves.

Our Jeffrey is most famous for his 1993 novel, The Virgin Suicides. Set in his hometown of Grosse Pointe, it tells the tragic story of five sisters’ suicides. His acclaimed novel Middlesex won him the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2003. When he’s not working on his novels, Jeffrey contributes to the New Yorker magazine. His most recent work is Fresh Complaint, a collection of short stories penned between 1988 and 2017. And word on the street is that a fourth novel is on the horizon.
