10 Shocking Reasons Why Michigan Thumb’s Power Outage Isn’t as Bad as You Think!

So, guess what happened again? Yep, another power outage in the Upper Thumb of Michigan. As we arrived at our cottage, we knew from the get-go that the power was out – not exactly a rare event in these parts. But hey, it wasn’t all bad. The neighbors had a generator humming, we caught up on local gossip, and even spun some good old 70’s vinyl on the turntable. The bourbon was flowing and we had a pretty great evening.

The next day was warm and sunny. I got my hands dirty planting a row of Pontiac Red potatoes and some onions I picked up from Huron’s Finest on the way up. I also spent some time cleaning up the yard and noticed that Ray from next door had a tree down. The birds were flocking to the feeders, just enjoying the day.

We decided to pack up and head home early, as our youngest was back from college and it would have been an early night without any lights. On our way home, we saw almost 50 DTE vehicles heading up M53 into the Thumb. The word around Caseville was that power wouldn’t be restored until Tuesday. Ugh!

But aside from that, it was just another ordinary, wonderful day in the Upper Thumb. Here’s hoping your day was just as good.

In a nutshell, we had another power outage in the Upper Thumb of Michigan. Despite this, we enjoyed some neighborhood camaraderie, listened to some classic vinyl records, and planted a garden. We decided to head home early when we saw the fleet of DTE vehicles, indicating that the power might not be back until Tuesday. But overall, it was just another beautiful day in the Upper Thumb.
